Welcome to our Bonus blog, we chat about R U OK Day.
What is R U OK Day? R U, OK day is Thursday 14th September and support those who are struggling along with wearing yellow to represent this beautiful and important day. The meaning of R U OK means reminding everyone that any day is to ask ''are you okay?' and support those who struggle with life or any other struggles. this year's theme is 'I'm here to hear.” R U Ok is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organization, founded by advertiser Gavin Larkin in 2009. It revolves around the slogan “ R U OK?” and advocates for people to have a conversation with others to encourage responsible public discussion of social isolation and its negative consequences such as suicide. Gavin Larkin is the founder of Ru Okay and the first day of R U, OK? day was held on 29 November 2009. His mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling with life. Ru Ok contributes suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks, friends, family, and colleagues to be alert to those around them to have a conversation if they identify signs of distress of difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they’re in crisis. TODAY at Every 1 cafe we will be acknowledging those who are struggling and we will support them during the difficult times.
